Professor Liu Jingang Wins First Prize of Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award
The Hunan Science and Technology Award Conference was held in Changsha on May 4. It aims to award science and technology professionals and innovation practitioners in recognition of their outstanding contributions to innovative development promotion in Hunan Province. CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Secretary and Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Director Du Jiahao and CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Deputy Secretary and Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe attended and presented awards to the winners. Professor Liu Jingang from the School of Mechanical Engineering of XTU won the first prize of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and delivered a speech on behalf of the winners. President Zhou Yichun also attended.
XTU won nine Hunan science and technology awards, including four as the first completion unit and five as participation unit. These awards fall into the categories of two national science awards, one technical invention award, and six scientific and technological progress awards. They are 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 3 third prizes.
Two representatives were invited to give a typical speech on behalf of the winners at the conference. Professor Liu stated that he will further carry forward the Hunan spirit of “being loyal, accountable, truth-seeking, and excellent”, practice the concept of innovation-oriented development, make more endeavors on key industrial and technological innovation chain like new energy vehicles and high-end equipment manufacturing, and made due contributions to building a new Hunan that is rich, beautiful, and happy.
Xu Dazhe pointed out that the driving force of innovation is essentially talent-driven. Efforts must be made to persist in regarding talents as the primary resource and create a favorable environment, so as to encourage more scientific and technological workers to make innovations in Hunan. Young people are the most dynamic and creative, Xu stressed. He hoped that all the Hunan youth will have the courage to open up minds, keep pace with the times, and dare to blaze new trails, in a bid to keep staying at the forefront of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, and strive to become pioneers in the new era.
Professor Liu Jingang was awarded the project of “Intelligent Prediction Control Technology of Starting Clutch” in 2009, which was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has been engaged in the research on the reliability of clutches with his team for 8 years. After gradually breaking through three major technical difficulties of compensation control, structural improvement, and assembly self-inspection, the project team has been granted 11 authorized invention patents, registered six software copyrights, and published 32 academic papers. The relevant achievements were applied to CVT (continuously variable transmission) of Hunan Jianglu&Rundar Vehicle Transmission and 6AT of Hunan Jisheng International Power Transmission System Co., Ltd. at the end of 2014. By the end of 2017, over 400,000 sets of automatic transmissions were produced and sold, and the sales revenue exceeded 3.2 billion CNY. When it comes to self-owned brand, the automatic transmissions have occupied a market share of more than 20%.
